Boyd and Sons began drag racing in 2008 with Stephen going to High School Drags, sponsored by Bandimere Speedway, in May of that year. Since then Stephen and Mark have done and redone his car several times with the help of the eldest son Jeff. Jeff has been racing for the past 8+ years. Stephen currently drives a 1995 Honda Civic Hatchback.
The 2009 season was a big jump up from the previous one. With a move to the Pro Sport Compact class, Boyd and Sons put together a new fully built motor, which produced 686 HP & 475 TRQ. The car ran its best time of 10.34 at 143.2 MPH in the quarter mile. At this year's Pro Sport Compact- USP World Tuner at Bandimere Speedway, the Boyd and Sons car was Co-Winner with a purse of $425.00. The final run was rained out.
Next year the car will have a new look with an Exospeed front end. It will also have the motor rebuilt from last year with a rebuilt turbo. The car will also weigh about 500 pounds less than last year's 2400lbs weight limit. Also, look for an additional Boyd and Sons car as Mark is putting together a racing car for himself. Boyd and Sons Inc., founded September 2006 is a locally owned and operated family business. Mark Boyd, owner, has over 30 years of experience as a John Deere Technician starting his career in Erie Pennsylvania right out of high school, owning his own business in PA, moving to Colorado in 1996 where he worked for Longs Peak Equipment for 11 years before starting his own shop in Erie Colorado. Mark is supported by his wife, Marna, who handles the office/Administrative end of the business and his son Jeff, who works part-time, and his son Stephen who works full-time.
